Inspired by a life-changing trip to South Africa in 2015.
On an intensely hot day, we watched a tightly protective herd slowly part, revealing the newest member sheltered beneath them. Baby elephants are surprisingly vulnerable to sunburn—their skin is far more delicate than it appears—so mothers and aunties instinctively form a living parasol of shade and safety.  The profound love and bonding we witnessed in that moment is what this Mother and Baby sculpture celebrates.
